High Probability Stock Trades & Portfolio Management Techniques
Access all of our FREE Content, via the Ears on the Markets blog. (Please note that the Model Portfolio is NOT part of our FREE offerings.)
Our Model Portfolio, which is currently available only to legacy members (until July 1st, 2012, when our current promotional phase is complete), is designed with the swing trader in mind. Stocks and ETFs that make it into the portfolio typically show high probability intermediate-term technical setups at the time of their inclusion into the portfolio.
While picking the right stock to trade at the right time is at least half the battle, no trading strategy is complete without the effective use of tried and tested portfolio management techniques, and so we keep portfolio management theory guidelines in mind when maintaining the portfolio.
Profits During Up-Swings & Down-Swings
Since its inception in January 2007, our Model Portfolio has consistently turned in profits.
This record has been established through the efficient use of portfolio hedging techniques - such as protective puts and pro-active portfolio allocation strategies - in addition to aggressive put options purchases, during bearish phases, and the purchase of long stock and ETF positions, during bullish phases.
You can glance at the recent performance via the chart on the right or you can take a look at the portfolio's entire past performance via the 'Performance' tab, above. You can also scrutinize individual trading picks, via the 'Trade History' tab.
Description
The following is a brief description of each of the components of the Model Portfolio service.
Current Positions
When a new position is selected for addition to the portfolio, complete trade details - including position size/allocation, most recent closing price, reason for entry, trade trigger (if any), sector of underlying stock/ETF, and detailed trade notes - in addition to links to live daily and/or weekly charts of the underlying stock or ETF, are provided in the 'Current Positions' section of the "Model Portfolio Home" page.
Subsequently, details regarding existing positions - including any changes in profit protection and exit strategy, or changes in the technical picture of the stock/ETF - are updated in the 'Current Positions' section, as and when necessary.

Allocation
In addition to the trade details of individual positions in the model portfolio, members can also take a look at the portfolio management side of the portfolio.
The old market saying goes, "don't put all of your eggs in the same basket."
The portfolio allocation graphs, accessible via the "Allocation" tab on the Model Portfolio Home page in the members area, help us pay homage to that old saying, by providing a graphical illustration of the portfolio resources that are put to risk on each current position and of the specific industry sectors the underlying stocks/ETFs hail from.

Strategy
No well thought-out trading portfolio would be complete without a well stated strategy, of course. However, unlike the typical "black-box" trading method that utilizes a strict set of rules that inevitably works out splendidly given certain pre-conceived market conditions but blows up when presented with untoward conditions, we utilize a more malleable approach that is moulded in accordance with existing market conditions.
At least once a week, we provide a clear insight into the 'Current Strategy' being implemented on the model portfolio.
A brief synopsis of our current market bias, derived from a purely technical analysis based reading of the minor and intermediate levels of trend, is provided and is used as the rationale for either holding the course or making any anticipated changes to allocation in and/or composition of the portfolio.
